I love your podcast. I spent over 20 years in a relationship in which I now understand I was coercively controlled. No one understood what I was going through because he presents himself as an amazing individual. I thought there was something wrong with me that I needed to fix. And yes, I came from a family that also used coercive control, and I would have probably spent my whole life in that relationship if it hadn't become abundantly clear to me that he had no real care for me. He clearly saw me only as an extension of himself; as a tool to be used. I did what most women do; I appeased. I gave him what he wanted to protect myself. God is kind though. I got out while it was definitely escalating, and I feared for my life - still do, if I'm 100% honest. And podcasts like yours remind me of what I'm dealing with even through his denials and the outward presentation of niceness; or I like to say "amazingness". There's nothing amazing about fearing for your life. In one of your episodes explaining why Nicole went back to OJ, you could have been describing me. I wanted the relationship, I didn't want the abuse. But he can't not be abusive. I did everything possible, hoping that if he understood the impact his decision to be abusive towards me and my children was having on us, he'd have a change of heart. But I came to understand that I was wasting my time. Have you read "Why does he do that? Inside the minds of angry and controlling men?" I recommend it to everyone who I notice is in such a relationship. And now I'll recommend your podcasts. The source of the misogyny is a belief: that they're better because of (add whatever you want to add here). And they justify their behavior because of that belief. It's the same reason half the population of Rwanda was wiped out within 2 days- calling the other group "cockroaches", minimizing them and fueling that hatred - enough for millions to step up and kill a million others. Your voice is a strong, clear voice that isn't letting up, it isn't pushing the issue under the rug, it isn't pretending that appeasement will fix the problem. Until men realize the source of their behavior towards women, and fix it; until they believe that women are on the same level as they are, nothing will change. We need more women such as yourself who believe strongly that we are on the same level as men and deserve to be treated as such; we are, as you say, 51 percent of the population. We get a say. Thank you.
