On April 27, 2024, Mica Francis (also known as Mica Miller), a 30-year-old woman from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, was found dead from a gunshot wound in a state park near Lumberton, North Carolina.

Mica had recently separated from her husband, John Paul Miller and was in the process of divorcing him. On numerous occasions she called the police for help. In the years leading up to her death, Mica was reportedly subjected to coercive control by Miller, according to a detailed account released by her family.

On December 18 2025 Miller was charged with cyberstalking and making false statements to federal investigators. The indictment alleges that beginning in November 2022 Miller sent unwanted and harassing communications to MIca until her death. The indictment also alleges he lied in his interview with federal investigators. On January 12 2026 Miller appeared in court for a hearing.
