On November 1, 2007, Meredith Kercher, a 21-year-old British student, was murdered in Perugia, Italy, in the apartment she shared with Amanda Knox. Rudy Guede was convicted of the sexual assault and murder in 2008, serving 13 years of a 16-year sentence. Guede was released early on parole in 2021. Amanda and her boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were initially convicted, then acquitted in 2015.
