In this episode Laura is once more joined by Hetti Nanton, Joanna Simpson’s best friend and chair of the national domestic violence charity, Refuge. In the aftermath of Jo’s brutal death, and following the previous in-depth interview, Hetti had lingering questions she wanted answered including, as Jo’s best friend, why didn’t she know Jo was at risk? Why didn’t she know the risks were escalating? Why didn’t she convince Jo to protect herself?

In this authentic and honest conversation Laura answers those questions through the lens of Jo’s case, deconstructing the at-times hard to spot coercively controlling behaviours as well as highlighting what can be done to help a loved one who might be in a similar situation to Jo.

Laura is frequently asked how to help someone who is being abused and oftentimes in the wake of a murder, family members who have met Laura say, ‘if only we had met you before.’ This episode is an important listen. It might just save a life.
