Must Listen podcast
I’ve been following Laura Richards on True Crime Profile. This podcast is just as powerful, incisive and important. This family was so retraumatized by the media and police portrayal of their mom. It’s heart breaking. Please listen to this podcast and share. The right words are crucial and life defining.
Fantastic
Laura Richards is amazing. Not only does she focus on victims, her expertise is second to none. She’s so passionate about issues like coercive control and stalking. Her understanding of criminal behavior really helps get at the heart of these issues. This pod is excellent, as expected! Highly recommend!
Excellent and sensitive podcast
Laura is a very insightful criminal analyst and does what the media has failed to do time and time again for the victims, offers them a platform to tell their story with understanding and sensitivity whilst also providing valuable insight
Well needed
Laura Richards has shown me that a true crime podcast can be done with a much greater depth and from a place with respect for victims and their relatives. That place also offers solid knowledge and has nothing in common with the hundreds who seem to entertain crime at a sensational level, that is, focus on the perpetrator and snazzy details. Well, I do not think that is what people want. I know what I want, knowledge and genuine interest in understanding and explaining. Laura does offer it and without exaggerating I can say that it makes me extremely grateful and inspired to listen to her. Thank you Laura.
What a unique and amazing tale about the strength of families during the worst moments in their lives. I appreciate the more human approach to the stories being told. you get just as much information but in a smart and respectful way. Hearing about it from all of these different angles somehow makes it more real and not just another murder talkshow on a podcast show. It's horrifying and intriguing at the same time
So good
Love hearing “language matters” and why in a murder case. The point is underscored and episode #2 highlights this. Well done.
Patience in interview style
Laura has a clear goal of putting victims of crime at the center of the story. She had a unique patience in her own silence that allows the victims story to come forward. We hear things others would miss because she lets the victims agenda lead. It’s very refreshing.
Poignant and insightful.
Laura Richards has done a sensitive job of listening to the children who were also victims of this ruthless and violent murderer.
Focusing on Victims
Laura Richards is a true shero! She does such a good job at describing the actions of perpetrators through the victims, barely talking about the perpetrator themselves while highlighting victims lives’ and the tragedy of their deaths. I’m excited to listen more to this podcast, since we’ll hear from victims directly. It’s so important to remember the loved ones that have left us instead of the terrible tragedy that happened to them.
Brilliant job by Laura! I’m a fellow Crime Analyst having worked hundreds of murder cases in the UK and have had the pleasure to know and work with Laura for many years. What separates this podcast from other true crime podcasts is the humanity behind the headlines. It provides a clinical breakdown of how the job gets done but the golden thread is always the victim and the huge impact violence against women and children has. As a society we are hotwired to focus on the offender and this podcast brings into sharp focus how totally wrong that is. Always question, always be curious, always realise the impact that language and assumptions has. Dig for the truth and always know behind every crime there is a family who has been destroyed by events. Bravo Laura, this podcast is a triumph and a heartfelt tribute to those lost lives and those living with the memories. #hernamewas
First episode conveys Laura's commitment to seeking out the victim's underlying story, involving family members who tell the story behind the headlines. A good in deptt, well thought out podcast.
Talking about crime with the right lens! No glory for offenders and only respect and honour for the victims. Thank you Laura for your continued leadership in this space.
Crucial lessons
I am a huge fan of of Laura’s other work & her continued advocacy for victims, and this new show is incredible. This podcast is a gift to anyone who engages in true crime or considers themselves a fan. Laura deals with criminals, not monsters or masterminds; criminals with real victims: victims & survivors who have real families that are affected deeply by not just the events but the same media that we “fans” are consuming. As someone who’s engaged with true crime since I was a teen, I am having a mirror turned on myself just by listening & the first 2 episodes have stunned me. it’s truly informative, moving, & human & honest, but you dont get to be passive, you’re being taught new ways of seeing & engaging with true crime. No one else is dealing with true crime in this way - this should be the ONLY way! I am here for it. Take me to school!
I love this podcast series that very refreshingly focuses on the victims rather than perpetrators whilst exploring crime
Crime Analysis at its Best - Victim Focused
I first heard Laura on The Real Crime Profile podcast where I became hooked by both her brilliance and her work with and for victims of domestic violence. With Crime Analyst, Laura takes on new stories and continues to kick the perpetrators out of the spotlight while putting the victims’ and their families’ stories in their rightful place - front and center. In so doing, Laura sets the record straight and reminds us of who these people were and are. Thank you for all that you do, Laura
I have been following Laura Richards for quite some time now. I am so grateful for and in awe of her critical mission! Her work is truly changing lives. I devoured the first 2 episodes of Crime Analyst and cannot wait for the next. Taking the power away from the offenders and giving voices back to the victims and their families in a very profound way. No one realizes how fancy names and media obsession of the OFFENDERS punish the victims and/or their families over and over again. Keep it up Laura! This podcast is incredibly well done!
Learning A Lot!
I like Ms Richards thorough approach to this topic. Especially appreciated is that she avoids sensationalizing the crime/criminals and instead gives voice to the victims.
Because
Could you somehow let people know that due to (The man of the family not doing his job) this is what these women had to do to feed there children. And list the name of the person who left the wife and children and would not help with the children’s care. They don’t have to be married just being the dad Means they need to give financials. If they are on drugs and alcohol or is abusive they can’t see the children.
Very interesting podcast from one of RCP’s own.
I thoroughly enjoy Laura’s insights on RCP and wasn’t disappointed when I listened to the first episode of Crime Analyst. I highly recommend this podcast for anyone interested in a deep dive into the cases Laura covers. Excellent job, Laura!
The real deal
I’ve been listening to Laura on True Crime Profile all year—it didn’t take long for me to realize she is absolutely brilliant and such an incredible advocate. I’m a clinical social worker; every episode is a master class. I’m so exited this podcast began!
Insightful and Respectful
Laura Richards is an expert in her field, a fierce advocate for victims, and a force for change. Her focus on victims and the people in their lives is a refreshing change from the pseudo-glorification of perpetrators. This podcast is a must listen. Subscribe now, you will love it
Powerful and insightful
Episode 2 is outstanding. Richard McCann is such an insightful and compassionate person. I have been a fan of Laura Richards for years. These two activists together: there is hope for the world. Excellent points on treatment of victims, the legal process, focus on the perpetrators, language used in these cases, and media.
So excited!
I love Laura Richards and can’t wait for more episodes!
5 Stars
