Utah Murders: Michael Haight Was Not a Good Man

Apparently this needs to be said. Stop memorializing and eulogizing violent men who kill.

Utah man Michael Haight shot and killed his wife Tausha Haight & mother-in-law Gail Earl in the family home on January 4 before killing his five children, three daughters Macie, Briley, Sienna & two sons, Ammon and Gavin aged between 4 - 17 years old.

Divorce papers were served on December 27. This entitled man killed them all. Unfortunately this is no great mystery. Separation is a high risk factor for serious harm & femicide. Coercive control also correlates significantly with femicide & familicide. He felt his wife and family were his property, his possession, his right. When Tausha wanted out of the relationship, Haight wasn’t going to allow it. It was going to end his way. I can’t tell you whether he thought it right to kill them, but he thought it was HIS RIGHT. Men with a supercharged sense of entitlement are a risk to women & children 🚩

Women and children are not property nor do we belong to men. It’s time to criminalize coercive control in America. Early identification, intervention & prevention are key. This will save lives.
